Dynamic HTML

Dynamic HTML is changing a web page's hyper text markup language (HTML) after the page has loaded, dynamic HTML is used on all the pages of this site.

See the page summary at the top of this page for a simple text example. Moving the mouse over a different text title like "Web Hosting" shows that pages summary below the section title. It allows you to click, to go directly to a sub section (or view a external reference site) if it interests you.

Dynamic HTML can also be used to move graphics on the page without the overheads of multimedia. Its use can bring a page to life.

If you decide to use any form of animation, for most (but not all) web sites subtle effects are often the best.

With not to quick or ongoing motion, for many that sort of effect is distracting and can lead to a visitors rapid departure.

Some more examples are:-

  • The animation on demand effect to the right.
  • The red arrow (green on mouse over) near the bottom of this page.

Website Examples

  • Animation on Bristol PC Computer Services web site for computer repair in Bristol. It has a sliding graphic animation active every 20 seconds in the top right hand side of the home page.

  • Changing the page based on the visitors selection of boxes, in the Deal or no Deal simulation web site.

  • The dynamic html created clock face and hands on on the Bristol Speaking Clock web site.

All by Peter Frost.

Dynamic effects are fun to write and very low bandwidth helping to keep web hosting charges low - unlike multimedia. So if you want to flip a coin, have your photo or text advert float or scroll gently across the screen or even if you want it to fly left, right, up, down no problem.

Simply suggest an effect and ask for a quote.
