Image Manipulation

Existing images can be manipulated to:-
  • Trim unwanted material, improving the image and speeding up the page load time.
  • Resize the photo (usually smaller) to fit the page better.
  • Compress the photo, to shorten the time the page takes to load with minimal loss of quality.
  • Convert from one image format to another.
  • Create animated gif's or transparent images. See Winston the dog at the top of page right hand side image for a transparent image, the background blue 'shows' through the transparent portion of the image.
  • Adjust the brilliance, contrast and colour balance.
  • Create slide shows or motion effects, see the next page for a motion effect using two graphics.
New graphics can also be created or purchased: For on topic graphics/site logo's and favicons - that is miniature icons in the favourites bar.

Multimedia

Multimedia in web page terms is adding audio or video clips to a page. Multimedia can be either embedded in the page to start when the page loads or started by a link or some user action.

Bristol PC can provide voice quality mp3's that don't take forever to load and work in the major browsers that are used to view web pages.

Speaking Clock You supply the text you want converted to voice. Either as e-mails. word processing documents or web pages. Specify the voice(s): Microsoft Sam, Mary or Mike.

The charge is £20 (UK pounds) to produce 5 mp3 clips of up to 1 minute long. £25 for 5 clips of up to 2 minutes. £30 for 5 clips of up to 3 minutes. Contact Peter Frost for more details, bulk discounts and other audio formats available.

For examples of embedded audio, see Bristol Speaking Clock a promotional web site for web design and multimedia services.

As another example here is a voice quality audio mp3: Lady Aster and Winston Churchill in a rather famous clip - 16 seconds duration, size: 115K.

Technical information: Voice quality clips are usually 32Kb or 56Kb per second mp3's. These commonly use Microsoft's Media Player or the Quick Time plug in for some Firefox (browser) users.
