What is Web Hosting

Web Hosting covers the hardware and communications needed to run your web site as well as the license fee for your domain name.

All hosted websites use full domain names, not sub-domains like subdomain.domain.co.uk, note the extra full stop. Sub domains often don't rank well on search engine result lists.

Web Hosting includes:-

• Disk Space on a server.
• Usage or Band Width - how much your site is used.
• License fee for the domain name.

Optionally Bristol PC can supply web hosting for your site. Purchased packages are available from two hosting suppliers one in the UK the other in Germany. Both are reliable large specialists in web hosting.

Rental and license fees are paid annually in advance. This is shared hosting with multiple sites sharing one server to keep costs low.

Restrictions on Site Use

• Pornography and any potentially offensive material will not be hosted.

• 200Mb of disk space and various band width (usage) limits starting at 1Gb per month. 1Gb is a considerable amount for most sites.

  To give a rough idea, a 50K page (including graphics) could be viewed about 20,000 times before the 1Gb limit was reached! This page in total is under 50K by the way.

Email

All web hosting accounts also include up to 3 email accounts. anyname@yourwebsitename.co.uk for example.

UK Based Server

For UK visitors a UK hosted server has a very minor speed advantage (a slightly quicker response time) over a German server.

• £35 per year, up to 1Gb per month usage for '.co.uk' or '.org.uk' domain names
• £40 per year, up to 1Gb per month usage for '.com' domain names

Web site pages on can also be amended by clients via a control panel or with a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) package.

German Based Server

A good value for money option. The majority of my reference sites are hosted on a German server can you tell the difference in response time?

.co.uk or .org.uk type domain names

• £12 per year, up to 1Gb per month usage (single page websites)
• £16 per year, up to 1Gb per month usage (multi page websites)
• £20 per year, up to 2Gb per month usage
• £24 per year, up to 3Gb per month usage

.com type domain names

• £30 per year, up to 2Gb per month usage
• £35 per year, up to 3Gb per month usage

'Unlimited Bandwidth'

I do not offer this service on a shared server, very heavy usage on one website effects the performance of all websites on that server.

FTP - the DIY option

If you need the facility to change the page yourself via a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software package, this can be set-up just add £5 to the annual hosting charge. Please note that any training or support to use the FTP software is chargeable.

I reserve the right to remove any offensive material from all website's hosted by Bristol PC. Where necessary in my opinion I also reserve the right to block FTP access.

VAT

The above prices are the prices you pay, there is no extra for VAT.

Free Transfer

There is no charge (from Bristol PC) for transferring your domain name during the yearly hosting period. Free transfers MAY not be possible after the expiry date of a web hosting package.
